By johannes — Filed under: Featured, News

Here is the official music video for our song “Let Go”. It features footage from the band’s 2009 West Coast Fall Tour and more. It started out as just a tour compilation video but quickly turned into a historical retrospective on all things Shaimus. We hope you enjoy it!

Fans, Show Thy Selves (and get a free song!)

By cam — Filed under: Featured, News

Hello World!

As a byproduct of our involvement in hit video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band 2, we’ve been given a larger mouthpiece than we ever expected.  To be involved in such a pop culture phenomenon is something most artists can only dream of.  Needless to say, we feel fortunate to have a piece, however small it may be, of that pie.

We’re constantly looking for new ways to connect and interact with our fans.  If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter (@shaimus),  you’re well aware of our frequent updates and ruminations.  The ability to communicate our thoughts and feelings to an audience is why we got into music in the first place.  Well, now we’re going to turn the tables.  We want you, the fans, to communicate with us! (and in return, we’ll give you a free song)

Watch this video.  Listen closely.

(can’t see it? Try it on YouTube)

This is the deal:

1.  Take a picture or short video of yourself or with fellow friends/fans, showing us who you are and where you’re from.  (Idea:  Write your name, hometown, and whatever else you’d like to say about Shaimus on a large piece of paper and hold that up to the camera, along with your pretty face.)

2.  Be creative! Your contribution doesn’t just have to be you sitting in front of your computer – snap a photo outside of your school, house, favorite restaurant, venue or anywhere! Take a second to explain how you first heard about us, what you like about the music, what your favorite song is, or why you are fan.  Or be mean, and tell us that we suck!  Just know you gotta be able to take it if you start dishing it out ;)

(And if you’re shooting a video, keep it of reasonable length and smaller than 100MB.)

3.  Send it to us!

PICTURES:  Simply send to submissions@shaimus.com

VIDEO:  Fire up YouSendIt.com in your favorite browser. Attach your video and send it off to submissions@shaimus.com. It’s fairly self-explanatory, but please take a look, there’s one important step:

yousendit3

4. Let us know how to contact you!

If you didn’t include your email address in the Enter Message field from yousendit we have no idea who you are, and we can’t get you a free song :(   No worries though – you can also forward the confirmation email from yousendit to submissions@shaimus.com directly, below is an example:

yousendit2

5.  Get a free song! To all of you who participate in this project, you will be the first ever to receive this previously unreleased Shaimus song… For free.  No.  Big.  Deal.  It will be some weeks before it’s ready (March-ish), but we promise you’ll be the exclusive first listeners.

If we get enough awesome submissions, we plan to make a sweet video out of the ones we find the most interesting. So send us something really cool! And tell your friends, too.

Note: The deadline is 3/3/2010 for submissions.  So get on it!  Also, apologies for it being a little complicated, but we are doing all this ourselves so we have to use whatever resources we have available to us at any given time :)

Well, that’s your chance to be involved in a global Shaimus project, the likes of which we’ve never attempted before.  We look forward to your creative and hilarious photos/videos and thank you for believing in our band.  We owe this all to you guys.

Cheers,

Shaimus

Help you help us

By evan — Filed under: Featured, News

I like helpful people.  In fact, I might go so far as saying that helpful people are just about my favorite kind of people out there.  I don’t think that’s too wild a statement.  Flora Edwards once said,

“In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us.”

Let me stop you before you ask me who Flora Edwards is.  I have no idea.  I just found that line when browsing the Internet for quotes about helping.  Although a quick Googling of her name reveals a page that claims she is a “South-African born industrialist.”  How enlightening.

But I digress.

My original point, meandering though it may have been, had to do with the many virtues of helping. Just look at this picture of some dude helping some other dude and tell me it doesn’t make you somewhat vaguely warm and fuzzy inside:

tennis_guy

And with that we bring you a new page here on the official Shaimus website: How You Can Help Shaimus.

Why the bloody hell would you want to help Shaimus, you ask?  You might not want to at all, to be honest.  That’s OK.  But in case you’re curious, we’ve laid out in reasonable detail on that page many little things that you could do that might help get our little band’s name in the minds and hearts of a precious few more people out there in the world.  Luckily, none of our suggestions involve your dropping spare change into a mug and mailing it to us.  Though that’s not the worst idea I’ve ever come up with (you don’t want to know the worst).

The thing is, going back to Ms. Edwards’ words of wisdom, that the more the fans help us pry our way into the collective consciousness, the more likely it will be for us to continue playing, recording, touring to a town near you, and so on in that fashion.  See?  Completing the circle, indeed.

Of course, it’s good to keep in mind the wise words of Andrew Carnegie:

“There is no use whatever trying to help people who do not help themselves.  You cannot push anyone up a ladder unless he is willing to climb himself.”

So let me be the first to assure you: we are, in fact, going to great lengths to climb the ladder.  The greatest lengths in our power, to be precise.  So you don’t have to feel at all dirty inside if you so choose to throw a bit of help our way.

Shaimus live this Friday (and Thursday)

By johannes — Filed under: News

Evan has returned from his vision quest to China and it’s time for Shaimus to play some darned shows!

We have 2 of them in fact.  We’re playing on Friday, October 16th at Cinespace and also Thursday, October 15th at The Lighthouse.

This is great news for us and you, because you have your pick of venue!

We’d love to see you at both shows, but if you have to pick one, we’d rather you come to Cinespace… We haven’t played there before so we want to do everything we can to make a great first impression.

Both shows are at around 9PM, so there’s plenty of time to have dinner, come rock with us, and then get drunk… Or whatever else you normally do on Thursday and Friday nights.

Without further ado, here are the details:

“Tie You Down” on ABC on 9/22!

By johannes — Filed under: News

Shaimus news of the week: “Tie You Down” will be featured on ABC Family’s Ruby & The Rockits tomorrow night at 8:30 PM (Tuesday 9/22). It’s the season finale, so there’s a slight possibility that it’ll be a nail biter!!

rubyrockits2

Sadly, we found out from ABC Family’s page that this show will be cancelled. So it’s your last chance ever to hear Shaimus on this show. (And the last chance for you or anyone else to watch a new episode live on TV.)

We’re making our mark, as usual. Here’s the episode description from tvguide.com:

In the first-season finale, Ruby gets mad at Jordan when he starts dating her best friend (Lucy Hale). Meanwhile, David and Patrick teach Ben how to defend himself against a bully at school.

The song is a background use, so it’s probably only going to be for a few seconds.  Make sure to listen to the song 10 times so you’ll know all the sections!

Also, if you or anyone you know likes this show, be sure to sport bragging rights that you already know about Shaimus while watching this episode!! Your friends will think you’re really cool, and we’ll love you for the shout out.

Next hopeful appearance: Robot Chicken… but I think the Primus guy already has that covered.

Interview with Phil on Campfreddy

By johannes — Filed under: News

campfreddy

Some time ago the non-profit website Campfreddy contacted us to ask if Phil would be available to answer a few questions. They heard and liked our song Like A Fool in Rock Band and being a site for Rock Band fans, the connection seems obvious!

Jumping at the opportunity, Phil took a break from his daily routine of writing jingles in his underwear to do the interview.

Ron and Phil talked about the origins of the band name, hazing a new member, taste in pizza and hip hop, and heartfelt advice about success in this (or any) business. Oh, and the usual influences, inspiration and looking ahead that comes along with most interviews with bands.

Check out the full interview here.

Hope you enjoy it! If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments :)

Also be sure to visit Campfreddy to read their previous interviews with Tim Ripper Owens (Judas Priest and Yngwie Malmsteen), Sam Andrews (Janis Joplin), and our friends from Freezepop and Vagiant to name a few.

Shaimus @ Malibu Chili Cook-Off

By johannes — Filed under: News

malibucarnival

This coming Sunday, September 6th, Shaimus will be performing at the 28th annual Malibu Chili Cook-Off and Carnival, hosted by the Kiwanis Club.

Our friend Arielle Verinis will be taking the stage with Cam, Phil and Evan at 4:30PM, followed by Shaimus at 5PM. These will be the last live performances of the cook-off and we’ll be sure to go out with a bang.

If you missed us at the Troubadour or Hotel Cafe, come check us out on this fine Sunday eve.

Here’s an article about the cook-off from the Malibu Times. I believe Chili tasting is $10, but entrance to the event is free.  UPDATE: entrance actually costs $10.

The cook-off is right off the PCH, here:

Rising from the dead

By evan — Filed under: News

Welcome to the brand-spanking-new Shaimus.com!  We’re still working out a few kinks here and there, but overall the site should work…  Feel free to let us know if anything is amiss.

In addition to emerging from our Internet coma, we will be making our triumphant return to the stage on Tuesday, August 4th at the Troubadour in Los Angeles!

This will be our first show since Dave left the band, and we’re happy to introduce you to our special guest guitarist, Lou Beaudreau!  Yes, Phil’s brother will be aptly filling in Dave’s large, goofy shoes, so come out to see us just in case they start getting into a Noel/Liam-like argument onstage and start throwing stuff at each other.  That’s what I’m personally hoping for, anyway.

It feels good to be back.  Many more blog posts to come.  Info on our Troubadour show here:

A new song and music video news

By shaimus — Filed under: News

As many of you know, we have been holing ourselves up in the studio for quite some time now. There is still quite a bit to be done for perfectionists like us, but that doesn’t mean we can’t give you a little something to tide you over in the meantime. Head on over to www.myspace.com/shaimus and listen to the glory that is “Like a Fool,” a not-quite-final recording of some brand new material.

We also just wrapped the shooting of our very first music video for our new song, “Turn the Other Way.” We had a blast at the shoot, and now director Adam Kerpelman has to take all that footage and try to make us look cool. It is an unenviable task, but if anyone can do it, it’s him!

Thank you all for your patience and support with our second recording undertaking… We are trying to make the best possible music for you. Rock on!
